Edward McCall Jr

1962 ~ 2022 (age 59)

Obituary

Edward McCall Jr. was born in Highland Park, Michigan on August 20th 1962
to Bessie McCall and Edward McCall Sr. He accepted Christ into his life at
an early age and faith was a cornerstone of his life.
Ed spent most of his life in Cincinnati, OH where he attended Roll Hill
Elementary School and graduated from Elder High School. A talented athlete,
Ed began his college football career at The Ohio State University as a
Buckeye running back before transferring to The University of Cincinnati
(UC) following an injury. He ended his football career as a running back
for the UC Bearcats. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where
he earned a Bachelor of Arts as well as Associate of Arts Degrees. It was
at UC where he met his future wife, Tonya. They wed on May 21, 1988 in
Toledo, OH.
Ed was a man of vision and drive. He made countless personal and
professional sacrifices over the course of his career to increase
opportunities for his family, his greatest pride and joy. Ed’s passion for
business and professional growth led him to develop with companies like
Roadway and Maaco (first Black owned franchise location in Ohio). His
natural inclination toward entrepreneurship led him to build several of his
own businesses: Mobile Oil Baron, Absolute Delivery Services, TVQ Caskets,
McCall Insurance Group and McCall Auto Group. His efforts culminated in his
greatest professional achievement: to serve as Owner and Operator of McCall
Funeral Home (MFH).

McCall Funeral Home is one of the few family owned, Black owned funeral
homes in the city of Cincinnati. Ed spent years investing in the business
so he could better serve the local community. This included a complete
building renovation, the acquisition of a funeral director’s license and
embalmer’s license, and the development of a fully operational facility on
the MFH property. Though he unexpectedly found himself on this career path,
he took extreme pride in providing families with incomparable care and
service in their hardest times. In his own words, “My steps were ordered.
It had very little to do with my own thoughts for my future. God has a way
of placing you in a particular place at a particular time, and also for a
particular reason. Just like he placed me here, he will determine what
comes next.”
In his few spare moments between manifesting his next visions, Ed enjoyed
the thrills of football season, jamming to The Temptations and other Motown
legends, exercising, defending his “Grill Master” title, laughing with
friends, and making memories with family.
Ed went to be with our Lord on April 13, 2022 at the age of 59. He was
preceded in death by many loving grandparents, aunts and uncles. He leaves
to celebrate his life and continue his legacy, his wife Tonya McCall; his
daughters: Ashley McCall and Lyndsey McCall (and granddog Layla); his
parents: Bessie McCall and Ed McCall Sr.; his sisters: Pamela McCall and
Annette McCall.
